These folks are not traditional journalists. They don’t do the same thing traditional journalists do, but they are the future of media — and are more likely to boldly advocate for our democracy.” (Message Box)

More sources, reliable, but mostly with a liberal bias:
- Letters from an American is a newsletter and post from historian Heather Cox Richardson. She often provides historical context to the news and everything is sourced. Media Bias Fact Check (that I use to determine reliability and bias of a source) has not rated her. I suspect she leans moderately left but is factual. I find her an excellent source for news and putting that news into perspective. You can subscribe on Substack and/or for the newsletter here: https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/. You can also listen on her podcast, Letters from an American: https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/podcast. They all provide the same content.
The following sources were recommended by attendees at our Jan. meeting:
From Media Bias Fact Check:
- Public Notice is a subscription-based newsletter and online news outlet founded and operated by Aaron Rupar, a prominent journalist known for his political analysis on various platforms. Public Notice, based in Minnesota, provides progressive perspectives on major political developments, emphasizing accountability and transparency in governance. It is rated as very left leaning and mostly factual. You can subscribe here: https://www.publicnotice.co/about
- Robert Reich (https://robertreich.org/) writes at robertreich.substack.com. You can subscribe to his newsletter at https://robertreich.org/. His media company, Inequality Media leans left and is highly factual. Inequality Media’s videos feature Reich discussing topics relating to inequality and power primarily in the United States, including universal basic income, the racial wealth gap, affordable housing, and gerrymandering. For example, in this recent video titled “How can anyone accept a system that enables billionaires to add $931,000,000,000 to their wealth while food lines stretch for miles, with no relief in sight?”
