What The Democratic-Coalition Has Accomplished (short version)
- Appointed 200+ qualified, diverse judges (more than 2/3rds are women and POC including the first Black woman SCJ Ketanji Brown Jackson).
- Passed the largest economic recovery plan since Roosevelt. (American Rescue Plan and Inflation Reduction Act)
- Passed the largest infrastructure bill since Eisenhower. (Infrastructure Act)
- Passed the 2nd largest healthcare investment since Johnson. (American Rescue Plan)
- Passed the largest climate change investment in the history of the world. (Inflation Reduction Act)
- Passed the first gun control bill in 30 years. (Safer Communities Act)
- Passed the massive expansion of benefits for veterans exposed to toxic substances for the first time in 30 years. (PACT Act)
- Passed the first national same-sex and interracial marriage protection act. (Respect for Marriage Act)
- Passed a massive investment in technology, supply chain, semiconductor (which run our computers, phones, cars and so much more). (CHIPS Act)
- Passed the Postal Service Reform Act (saved the post office!).
- Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act (took 200 attempts since 1900 to get this passed).
- Passed the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization.
- COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act.
- Passed the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act.
- Passed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act (took 25 yrs to pass).
- Passed the Victims of Crime Act.
- Passed more than 175 bipartisan bills despite the GOP’s obstructionist agenda and Democrats’ bare majority.
What The Democratic-Coalition Has Delivered (short version)
- Largest investment ever in clean energy and climate action which has delivered better jobs/wages and investment in the US.
- Strongest job market in 50 years. 5M more Americans are working than they were in 2019. 15.4M jobs created – more than any other president in history for a single term. Biden’s efforts to transform the economy for working people has been so dramatic and historic that even progressive economist Robert Reich is cheering. Black and Latino unemployment is the lowest it’s ever been.
- Inflation is down – zero in May 2024! And wages are outpacing inflation and we even more buying power than we did in 2019.
- Crime is down.
- Mass shootings are down. There have been 29% fewer mass shootings in 2024, with 91 fewer deaths and 220 fewer injuries.
- Violent crime and property crime are down sharply in 2024. FBI data shows substantial drops in every category, including murder (-26.4%), rape (-25.7%), robbery (-17.8%), and property crime (-15.1%). These declines follow steep drops in violent crime and property crime in 2023.
- More than 500 people — some linked to transnational cartels and organized crime rings — have been charged with gun trafficking and other crimes under the landmark 2022 Safer Communities Act – the first gun control legislation passed in 30 years.
- Illegal immigration crossings have dropped by 40% since Biden issued new rules on asylum.
- Expanded the Affordable Care Act and as a result, we have the highest healthcare enrollment ever with a record 21M signing up last year and 92% of all Americans covered – the highest ever.
- Invested hundreds of millions in mental healthcare for students.
- Lowered drug and healthcare costs – millions of Americans are saving $800+ per year on healthcare, millions more are saving on Rx drugs including insulin, inhalers and hearing aids. (Insulin payments are capped at $35 per month for Medicare recipients and out of pocket expenses for Medicare Rx drugs are capped at $2K per year. Inhalers are now being sold for $35 compared to over $600.)
- Medicare can now negotiate Rx drug prices for the first time in decades.
- Americans are saving on student loans, Rx, inhalers, insulin, taxes, junk fees, & groceries thanks to the Biden administration’s actions to lower costs.
- Banks are slashing and/or eliminating credit card fees in response to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s proposed rule on credit card late fees.
- Wages are up especially for lower-middle income people. In 2022, the middle class household income became the highest it has ever been under Biden with wages up 70% compared to 2019. The bottom 99%’s wealth has increased significantly, reaching a record $102.55T.
- 401Ks are up as the stock market sets new records.
- Gas prices are down. Thanks to the Biden administration’s management of the US’ Strategic Petroleum Reserves, the US produced more oil and was able to buy it back at cheaper rates.
- Eliminated billions in medical debts from credit reports. Enacted the No Surprises Act of 2022 banning surprise medical billing for emergency and out-of-network costs. They also recently announced that medical debt will no longer be included on credit reports at all.
- Reduced Inflation with targeted policies – The US is “the envy of the world) (WSJ with the best recovery of the G7 countries.
- Forgave $165+B in student loans for nearly 5M Americans and is expected to grow to 30M borrowers (despite SCOTUS blocking his $400B program) – hear firsthand from a borrower on how Biden is solving the student loan crisis.
- Protected access to reproductive healthcare where the federal govt has jurisdiction including protecting access to the abortion pill.
- Expanded the economy – the GDP is on fire – experts predicted it would be -0.1%. The economy is now nearly 10% larger than in 2019 before the pandemic (real GDP) with the economy growing at a robust 2.8% (quarterly annualized rate) under Biden.
- Increased manufacturing investment, clean energy investment, small business applications and union organizing all hit new highs which means more jobs and higher wages.
- For the first time in nearly 50 years, the U.S. economy is growing at a faster rate than China.
- Set new records with US renewable and domestic oil production.
- Provided access to affordable broadband service for millions of Americans in low-income and rural areas which significantly improves economic and health outcomes.
- Issued more executive actions on gun violence than any other president.
- United the West against Putin and behind Ukraine, standing against authoritarianism and for democracy.
- Strengthened and expanded NATO which, in turn, strengthened our national and global security.
- Delivered critical intelligence and military support to Ukraine before and during Russia’s war on Ukraine.
- Restored humanitarian aid to Palestinians which Trump eliminated.
- Ended the 20 year war in Afghanistan that was never once authorized by Congress, lost over 172K lives and cost $6.5T.
- Got Mexico to pay $1.5B for border security. Increased border security with 65+ terror suspects caught at the border in just 2022 – more than the previous 5 years combined. 2x as much fentanyl has been seized at the border than under Trump.
- Got 70% of Americans vaccinated and reopened America.
- Reduced illegal crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border by more than 50% (in May 2024) compared to the record highs reported in December.
- Implemented significant changes to the criminal justice system and increased oversight of law enforcement while also providing funding for more police training and community resources.
- Reversed Trump’s Muslim ban policy and family separation policy. Reunited 97% of children separated from their parents at the border. Issued 296 executive actions on immigration to reverse the damage done by Trump and to improve the immigration process. Reinstated DACA.
- Partnered with Mexico and Northern Triangle countries to reduce the root causes of migration.
