IndivisibleNWI May public Meeting: 6/5/25
- Welcome-Thank you for joining us! Welcome to the IndivisibleNWI June Public Meeting! We have several things going on today. First, we will hear from our speaker and then we will take the rest of the time to work on posters for upcoming protests and especially the one on June 14.
- Today we are going to start out with a great speaker who has been in the healthcare field for quite some time. As well as being a physician, she is also CEO of a local Federally Qualified Health center. She has the experience of seeing what is going on firsthand regarding women’s Health as well as other issues. Please let’s welcome Dr. Janet Seabrook, CEO at Community HealthNet.

- I would like to start out by saying and I want to make this very clear. That people can contribute in any way that is best for them. Some of us have the bandwidth to do “all the things”. Some of us do not. Some of us would like to concentrate on the things that are most important to them. Some of us like to concentrate on the things that we feel we do best and can make the most impact with. Here at Indivisible, we are OK with that. Do we need people to do more things, especially now? Yes, we do. I have to say that. But at our last meeting, we heard from a few people that were worried about getting out there and protesting due to concerns about School scholarships, violence, etc. Those are valid concerns, and we want to make clear that we think they are valid concerns. If you feel like protesting is not what you need to do, then don’t do it. No one is going to make you feel bad about that. The rest of us who are good with protesting will pick up the mantle and go forth. People must contribute in the ways that they can. One person may be better and more comfortable with writing letters to the editor, making calls, sending texts and doing social media. Others more comfortable getting out there and going to an office of an elected official and making their opinions known in person. Another may be good with registering voters and helping with civic education. There are many ways that you can be active. And yes, we do need people to do more right now. But in the end, do what is best for you – but just do something. We may not have a lot of time to fight back.
- We are looking for people to join our Safety Squad. As we do more protesting and rallies, it has come to our attention that we need to think about the safety of these events and the people who attend them. So, we are looking for a few people who would like to help us with that. These would be people who are visible, stay observant, and able to report back to the leader that day of anything that may look wrong or suspicious.
- Traffic control: keeping people on the sidewalk and out of the street in all areas of the March or protest
- Watching for someone being unruly or unhelpful.
- Being observant
- Keeping our people away from counter protesters. Not confronting them, or speaking with them, but advising people to move away or walk away.
- Reporting any or all of the above to the leader that day by Cell Phone.
If we get enough people to volunteer to do this, we will have a Zoom meeting to go over safety best practices. That way, you will know exactly what it is that you are being asked to do. Volunteer today at the meeting or send an email to: president@indivisiblenwi.org
- From May 30 through June 2, I had the privilege of going to the IndivisiFest, The Indivisible National Conference in Washington DC. it was better than I could have imagined with leaders from all over the country. There were many chapters who like us have been around for over eight years, but there were so many more new leaders from new chapters all across the country. Every state was represented. Indiana had representation of six chapters. We now have something like 11 chapters across Indiana. It was a great experience, and it was four days of trainings and seminars and discussion. If anyone is interested in knowing more about exactly what was learned at this conference, I am thinking of putting together a zoom where I can go over all of this with those of you who are interested. I learned a lot, and I would like to pass on those things. How many of you might be interested?
